Supporting Digital Literacy and Quality Journalism, Garudafood Gives 150 Account Subscriptions to Kompas.id for Brawijaya University

Malang, 5 November 2021 - Garudafood held another ceremony for the fifth times, to give 150 account subscriptions of Kompas.id annual subscriptions and held a digital literacy webinar for Brawijaya University with the topic “Abundant Information, Filtering Hoaxes, and Fake News”.

The 150 account subscriptions were symbolically given by Fransiskus Johny as the CEO of Garudafood to Prof. Dr. Abdul Hakim, MSi Vice Rector of Brawijaya University accompanied by Sutta Dharmasaputra - Editor in Chief of Kompas and Haryo Damardono - Vice Managing Editor of Kompas.

Fransiskus Johny, an alumnus of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brawijaya University who graduated 27 years ago, is very supportive of the event and reminds each individual to always read the information in full and filter first before sharing it with other parties. “We function as Filters” because the power of the digital world is unavoidable in the current era.

Digital literacy refers to the knowledge and skills to use digital media, communication tools, or networks in finding, evaluating, using, creating and utilizing information in a sound, wise, intelligent, careful, accurate, and law-abiding manner to foster communication and interaction in daily life.

Through this program, Garudafood hopes to assist lecturers in transferring knowledge to students from credible sources and accurate information or data. Lecturers as educators play a role in developing mature characteristics in students and can motivate and identify potential to develop students’ critical thinking and in the future, the students are expected to be able to receive information more wisely from various sources and to be able to review and verify the news in their area Students can become agents of change at least starting from their area to large organizations in the general public so we will be able to create capable successors of the nation and use digital media wisely to gain benefits for ourselves and others.

Garudafood Supports Quality Journalism is one of Garudafood's CSR programs through collaboration with Kompas.Id by giving 1,000 annual subscriptions to Kompas.id for lecturers or students in 6 universities as well as internal employees of the Garudafood Group. The ceremonial handover of this assistance will be done through 6 webinars, which will be held on a weekly basis in October - November 2021 at each University.
