Barry Callebaut and Garudafood Expand Supply Partnership in Indonesia

Zurich/Switzerland, Rancaekek (Bandung)/Indonesia, 27 November 2018 - Garudafood, one of the largest food and beverage companies in Indonesia, and Barry Callebaut Group, the world's leading producer of high-quality chocolate and chocolate products, announced the signing of a cooperation agreement for the long-term supply of 7,000 tons of chocolate per year to the Garudafood biscuit factory in Rancaekek, West Java. Barry Callebaut expects additional volume shipments starting from mid-2019.

  • Garudafood and Barry Callebaut signed a long-term agreement to supply an additional 7,000 tons of compound chocolate per year
  • Barry Callebaut will build a “factory within a factory” with a total investment of Rp 40 billion at the factory in Rancaekek (Bandung), Indonesia

The 'Factory within a Factory' concept will be implemented at the Garudafood Rancaekek biscuit factory with a total investment of Rp 40 billion. The collaboration between the two companies also covers innovation and new product development as well as product quality improvement. This will further strengthen Garudafood's position as a market leader in Indonesia.

This second long-term agreement is a commitment to the successful partnership between Barry Callebaut and Garudafood, which started in June 2015. To date, the agreement has been realized by building Barry Callebaut's first chocolate factory in the Garudafood Gresik factory area and supplying more than 10,000 metric tons of chocolate to Garudafood.

Barry Callebaut started operating in Asia in July 1997 when the company opened its first chocolate factory in Singapore. It currently operates five chocolate factories (in China, India, Indonesia, Japan, and Singapore), three chocolate factories (two in Indonesia and one in Malaysia), and one combined chocolate and cocoa factory (in Malaysia).

Barry Callebaut has more than 550 employees throughout Indonesia, namely in Gresik, Bandung, Makassar, and Lampung. In addition, Barry Callebaut is also committed to expanding its sustainability program for cocoa farmers in Indonesia through the 'Forever Chocolate Program'.
